Ced Vig Nature Series Presents the Pelican River Project at Nicolet College
Nicolet College’s popular Ced Vig Nature Series will host a presentation on the Pelican River Project. The presentation will be held at Nicolet College’s Lakeside Center Theatre on Wednesday, September 17 at 10 a.m.
The presentation is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Nicolet College’s Learning in Retirement and Arts and Enrichment programs.
The Pelican River Project is just a few miles east of Rhinelander along Hwy 8. It is a 70,000-acre block of forest, water, and wetlands that is protected forever from development and subdivision, safeguarding what was the largest privately-owned, unprotected block of forest remaining in the state.
The working forest supports forestry jobs, supports local economies through participation in the tax base, and is open to public recreation.
Topics covered will include the varied ecosystems in the tract, the iconic species of flora and fauna that flourish there, and how this conversation project succeeded because of the skills and efforts of many working together.
Speakers will include representatives from The Conservation Fund, Oneida County Clean Waters Action, Friends of the Pelican River Project, Gathering Waters, and Sokaogon Chippewa Community.
Future Ced Vig Series presentations for Fall/Winter 2025 include Aquatic Invasive Species in Oneida County, Dragons and Damsels of Wisconsin, and Northwoods Fisheries. Details can be found on the Learning in Retirement website. All Ced Vig Series presentations are free and open to the public.
